"The SAM program requires administrators to become totally immersed into a school culture and allows principals to become instructional leaders. Teacher evaluations become much more meaningful and powerful. Studentstruly enjoy having their principal become engaged in classroom activities."
Dr. Ken Ardnt, Superintendent, Carpentersville School District
The SAM initiative in Illinois is coordinated by the Large Unit District Association (LUDA) through funding by The Wallace Foundation and currently involves 45 schools in 6 districts.
The work began in Illinois in 2007, with SAMs piloted in Chicago, Springfield, and McLean County Unit #5 school districts. In 2008, SAMs was disseminated to more districts in the state with plans to continue expanding SAMs school in 2009-2010. If you are interested in participating in the SAMs initiative or would like more information, contact Roberta Hendee at LUDA.
